The Portuguese women’s football team will play against Ukraine at the Bessa Stadium in Porto on July 7 in the last game before leaving for the World Cup, the Portuguese Football Federation (FPF) announced on Monday.
The match against Ukraine, the time and information of which will be announced shortly by the FPF, will be the second for the women’s team at the Bessa Stadium, which on June 24, 1983 was the scene of a match between Portugal and Italy (0-2 ).
In statements issued by the FPF news agency, Porto Mayor Rui Moreira hailed the team’s return to Boavista, which he described as “one of the cradles of Portuguese women’s football”.
“Porto, the city of the first national football champions, will offer its traditional and enthusiastic support to the national team, in its last preparatory match on Portuguese territory, before the departure for the World Cup. We will do everything to protect our country and our football, in New Zealand and Australia, where they go a few days later,” said
Boavista president Vítor Murta was honored by the choice of the Bessa stadium, promising “an excellent atmosphere in the stands”.
Boavista, which prides itself on being one of the pioneers of women’s football in Portugal, as well as one of the clubs with the most titles at national level, will once again host a match of the A women’s national team at Estádio 40 years later do Bessa Séc.XXI, which brings together all the conditions to provide a great show and an excellent atmosphere in the stands,” he said.
The Women’s World Cup will be held in New Zealand and Australia from July 20 to August 20.
The Portuguese team, which makes its debut in the World Cups, will first play against the Netherlands (July 23), then against Vietnam (27) and in the last game of group E against the United States (August 1).
