End of matches at 21:15. League advances schedule of football matches during the week

The Portuguese Professional Soccer League (LPFP) approved this Monday a modification of the competition regulations that, among other points, applies a change in the schedule of matches on weekdays, so that they are held earlier.

The measure, which, like others put to a vote, was approved unanimously by the sports companies present at the meeting, which only lacked the B SAD, aims, according to the organization, “to encourage the return of the fans to the stadiums.”

The measure “eliminates the possibility of games being scheduled at 9:15 p.m. on weekdays,” and if a single game is scheduled, it must be played at 6:00 p.m. or 8:15 p.m.

If two challenges are scheduled on the same business day, they must be held at 6:45 p.m. and 8:45 p.m.

Also in this general assembly of the LPFP, the alteration of the League Cup model was approved, which will only come into force in the 2024/25 season, and which will be played by only eight teams, six from the I League and two from the II League.

The election of these shields will be made by the classification of the respective previous championships, being chosen the six first classified of the I League, and the two first of the second division.

These clubs will be selected for a competition, in a quarterfinal format, with single-game matches.

The possibility of internationalizing this League Cup is still under debate and, according to Rui Caeiro, executive director of the LPFP, “this is one of the main objectives of the competition and of the Liga Portugal brand.”

This general meeting also approved the obligation, as of 2024/25, to attend training sessions organized by the LFPF for all sports agents that are included in the game’s technical file, with the exception of coaches.

According to Paulo Rozeira, legal director of the LPFP, this training ranges from team technicians to managers who are included in the game sheet, and it “will be articulated according to the functions that each one performs”, revealing that “not yet It is defined” if this training implies additional costs for the clubs.

The final transposition of the rule that determines that clubs must designate up to nine substitutes in each game was also approved, being able, at three moments of regulation time and at half-time, to make up to five substitutions.

A new requirement was also introduced, which states that failure to present a valid insurance certificate, up to 24 hours before match time, which determines that the club does not have at least 13 players available, prevents play and constitutes a unexcused absence by the club.

It was also decided to inspect compliance with the requirements related to the stadium lighting system, which will be subject to inspection by a certified entity for this purpose.
