The PSP on Sunday detained a supporter suspected of entering the lawn of the Ovarense stadium during the football match with União de Lamas and kicked the visiting team’s goalkeeper, police said on Monday.
In a statement, the PSP says that the 23-year-old suspect has been arrested for entering the grounds of the sports show.
The case took place in Parque Desportivo Marques da Silva, in Ovar, in the district of Aveiro, during the football match between the teams Associação Desportiva (AD) Ovarense and União de Lamas, to determine the 1st place in the SABSEG championship, of the Football Association of Aveiro.
According to police, the supporter entered the field of play and kicked the União de Lamas goalkeeper, after immediately fleeing to the stands, where he was intercepted by the officers present there.
“The athlete was taken to hospital where he was kept for observation and the match was considered over at around 6.35pm,” the same note read.
Several videos were shared on the social network Facebook showing the moment goalkeeper Nuno Dias is kicked by a fan wearing an Ovarense shirt.
The vareiro club has already “vehemently” rejected the events that took place at a time when the home side won 1-0.
“It was an isolated, sad act that is in no way consistent with the values enshrined in Associação Desportiva Ovarense,” the club writes in a statement on its Facebook page.
Ovarense also mentions that the game was stopped after 48 minutes of the first half due to União de Lamas’ refusal to resume the game, but rejected that there was a lack of security measures, noting that there was a police force of almost 30. elements instead.
