Benfica receives Santa Clara on Saturday and will have a special fan base in Brazil. The eagles need a win and Rodrigo Pinho believes that it will be “a day of joy for all Benfica fans”.
“I always try to watch the games, cheering here. I made many friends at the club and I hope that Saturday will be a day of joy for all the Benfica fans. It is well deserved, Benfica had an excellent championship. I think it was the team who played the best football. I think the title will be deserved”, the striker told TSF.
Rodrigo Pinho played two league games in the first part of the season before leaving for Coritiba in Brazil, so if the title goes to Luz, he will also have a medal.
In addition to the 45 minutes in the League, the Brazilian also played in the Champions League, in the League Cup and in the Portuguese Cup, in a total of 128 minutes with the eagles this season.
“Although I participated in some games, I was able to be with the group since the preseason. I’ll be watching television cheering a lot. I’m sure the title will come. At another club, I have other goals here, but, as I said, I have great affection and very special for Benfica. It’s always good to be part of that story”, he says.
The choice of Roger Schmidt, by Rodrigo Pinho, is part of the secret of Benfica’s season: “He is a great coach. The way he treats all the players, how he behaves even with those who are not playing and the way he that he trains, the intensity that he puts into each training session, the pressure. He is a great coach and he deserves this title”.
Benfica takes to the field on Saturday against Santa Clara in the last day of the championship. A victory guarantees the title for the Luz club and a draw could be enough, if FC Porto do not beat Vitória SC by 11 goals difference.
In Portugal, in addition to Benfica, Rodrigo Pinho played for SC Braga, Nacional and Marítimo.
