This Thursday, champion Moreirense defeated the already relegated Sporting da Covihã 6-4 in an atypical game, full of goals, of the 34th and final round of the II Portuguese football league.
The formation of Moreira de Cónegos thus ends the race in first place with 79 points, while Covilhã finishes 18th and last with 28.
Covilhã’s team reached the goal very early. After just five minutes, after a corner kick, Jorginho put in front of Lucho, with a header, to score the first goal of the match.
Two minutes later, the home side restored the equalizer through Madson Monteiro, who scored after much confusion in the penalty area.
Taking advantage of the frantic pace of the game, Moreirense wasted no time and found himself in front of the scoreboard for the first time. After a corner, Pedro Amador assisted Walterson, who shot on goal, with the ball deflected by André Luís, the goalscorer.
But Covilhã quickly turned around. First, Gilberto made it 2-2 in the 27th minute, after an assist from Diogo Rodrigues. Two minutes later, after a pass from Fatai, Aponza put the team led by Alex Costa back into the lead.
An inspired Walterson, however, ensured that Moreirense reached half time with a 4-3 lead and left the prospect of a game that would not stop in terms of goals here in the air. And the prediction was not entirely wrong.
The home side entered the second half with another goal, this time from Alan who ‘pushed’ the ball over Igor Araújo.
Shortly afterwards Walterson made the hat-trick after an assist from Alan.
Sporting da Covilhã closed the scoring of this atypical match. After a free kick, Lucho appeared at the far post, crossed and Aponza scored with a header.
At the end, there was a party in Moreira de Cónegos, with the champion team promoted to the main football division celebrating together with their supporters.
