The president of the Club League, Pedro Proença, sent this Saturday congratulations to Benfica and the club’s president, Rui Costa, for winning the 38th title of Portuguese football champion in its history.
“By winning this 38th championship, I wholeheartedly congratulate the entire team, coaches and managers for the excellent championship, competitiveness and determination that they have shown day by day, as well as the president Rui Costa. Congratulations to SL Benfica for one more title for join the already vast history”, wrote Pedro Proença, in a message published on social networks.
The Portuguese Professional Soccer League itself also congratulated “SL Benfica, its players, coaching staff, coaching staff and management, for winning the 38th trophy in this competition”.
Benfica was crowned Portuguese football champion for the 38th time this Saturday, after beating Santa Clara, 3-0, at home, in a match of the 34th and last round of the Portuguese First League.
Needing a victory to mathematically secure the title, Benfica scored through Gonçalo Ramos (07 minutes), Rafa (28) and Grimaldo (60), from the penalty spot.
After a ‘drought’ of three seasons, the ‘incarnated’ once again celebrated a national title, finishing the I Liga with 87 points, two more than FC Porto.
