In the 37th and penultimate round, a draw was enough for PSG to confirm their ninth title in the past 11 seasons, this time with a strong Portuguese presence in the side including Danilo, Nuno Mendes, Renato Sanches and Vitinha.
Nuno Mendes, injured, was the only one absent from the Portuguese group, while the rest were all PSG starters, in a game where Lionel Messi, at the end of his contract with the Parisians, gave his team the lead in the 59th minute.
Until the end, Strasbourg, already guaranteed maintenance, escaped defeat thanks to a surefire shot from veteran striker Kevin Gameiro in the 79th minute.
The ‘millionaire’ PSG cemented his recent dominance in French football and now holds the championship record, ahead of Saint-Étienne, with 10, and Marseille, with nine.
Lens, in second place, is still fighting for the title, but will finish the season with direct access to the Champions League, something that happens for only the third time in its history, the first in two decades, after 1998/99 and 2002 /03.
In this round, Lens received and defeated Ajaccio 3-0, leaving Marseille out of the ‘Champions’, with the team of Vitinha and Nuno Tavares, both used, being surprised at home by Brest (2-1).
Lille, led by Portuguese coach Paulo Fonseca and captained by José Fonte, remain fourth in the Europa League after beating Nantes 2-1 at home, and will play the final round one point ahead of Rennes, fifth, the team that won, beating Monaco 2-0.
Nantes, for their part, are still in danger of relegation, as is Auxerre, who have a two-point lead over their rival before the final round.
Troyes, Ajaccio and Angers have already been relegated.
