The Portuguese tennis player Nuno Borges qualified this Sunday for the first time for the second round of Roland Garros, beating the American John Isner in five sets, in the first round of the second Grand Slam tournament of the season.
After being eliminated last year on the first day of the Parisian ‘major’, in which he was making his debut, the national number one and 80th in the ATP ranking beat the experienced Isner (90th) by partials of 6-4, 5-7, 7 -6 (7-3), 4-6 and 7-6 (11-9), in a long marathon of three hours and 58 minutes.
Nuno Borges, who is the only Portuguese representative in the Roland Garros singles table, given the eliminations of João Sousa and Frederico Silva in the ‘qualifier’, will face the winner of the duel between the Spanish Bernabé Zapata Miralles (38th) in the round of 16 ) and the Argentine Diego Schwartzman (95th).
Participating for the fifth time in a Grand Slam tournament, Nuno Borges surpassed the first round of singles for the second time, after having already done so at the 2022 US Open.
