Nine youths, some of whom are minors, have been arrested for committing theft during the celebrations of the football championship held in Lisbon from Saturday to Sunday, the Public Security Police (PSP) reported on Thursday.
In a statement, the PSP said the group includes a 15-year-old and eight aged between 16 and 18, detained near Praça Marquês de Pombal.
The suspects of the robbery were arrested after “detailed descriptions” and had four mobile phones in their possession, two of which belonged to “the victims who had reported a moment earlier, who recognized the perpetrators of the thefts on the spot”, the police describe.
The other mobile phones were seized, as the owners were unknown, representing a capital loss of 1,600 euros.
The arrests were made by the Metropolitan Command of Lisbon, through the Criminal Investigation Division, and the detainees were taken to court for questioning, with three of them subjected to the coercive measures of weekly presentations; biweekly presentations to one; and three-week presentations for two young people.
The 15-year-old minor was handed over to his mother, “being the same to present him before the family and minors court of the residential area for the application of a custody measure”, the PSP emphasizes, adding that the other two youths were released without coercion .
