This Thursday, the Disciplinary Board (CD) of the Portuguese Football Federation (FPF) initiated disciplinary proceedings against Benfica footballer David Neres, after the striker had been the protagonist of some provocations during the title celebrations.
In a statement, the federal disciplinary body reports on the initiation of the process “by decision of the professional section, dated May 30, 2023, with the aim of determining the possible disciplinary relevance of constant factuality of news published in the media”.
In the early hours from Saturday to Sunday, during the celebration of the Eagles’ title, David Neres posted provocative comments on the Instagram social network to Portuguese international midfielders Otávio, from FC Porto, and Pedro Gonçalves, from Sporting, and to the two rival clubs, who finished second and fourth respectively in the I Liga.
“The process was sent to the Commission of Instructors of the Portuguese Professional Football League on May 31, 2023, excluding advertising until the end of the instruction,” the CD concludes in a statement.
FC Porto had announced a participation in the FPF CD against David Neres, taking into account what happened last season, when the players Diogo Costa, Wilson Manafá, Fábio Cardoso and Otávio were penalized with a match suspension, in response to the chants those insulting chants to the ‘eagles’ during the championship win celebration visiting Luz.
The disciplinary proceedings against the SAD of the ‘dragões’ and the four footballers in question were the result of a participation by Benfica, which left Diogo Costa, Manafá, Fábio Cardoso and Otávio absent in the victory (3-0) of the 2022 edition of the Super Cup Cândido de Oliveira against Tondela, from II Liga, in Aveiro.
