The Argentinian Lionel Messi is leaving Paris Saint-Germain, the French club confirmed on Saturday, two days after coach Christopher Galtier also announced the footballer’s departure.
“After two seasons in the capital, at the end of the 2022/23 season, the adventure between Leo Messi and Paris Saint-Germain will come to an end. The club would like to thank the seven-time winner of the Ballon d’Or, the Super Cup and two league champions of France,” the French club said in a statement.

The information emerges on the day Ligue 1 ends and already after the coach indicated on Thursday that it would be a farewell to Messi, although the club still denied Galtier in statements to AFP, saying he expressed himself poorly.
In today’s press release, titled “Leo, Thanks” [Leo, Merci, no original]Paris Saint-Germain recalls Messi’s recent history and recalls that ‘La Pulga’ made his debut for the club on August 29, 2021, leaving a mark 74 matches later, including in France.
“After being crowned champion of France in his first year, the number 30 took home the prestigious France Football Ballon d’Or, the seventh in an immense career,” adds the French emblem’s statement.
In that regard, Messi is also grateful for both seasons in Paris, as is club president Nasser Al-Khelaïfi.
“I want to thank the club, the city of Paris and the people for these two years. I wish you all the best for the future,” said the Argentinian.
In his message, Nasser Al-Khelaïfi not only thanked the player, but said it was a real satisfaction to see the Argentine “inspiring young people” and that his contribution to the club and the championship cannot be underestimated.
Paris Saint-Germain was Messi’s only club as a senior and professional after 20 years with FC Barcelona.
The future of the man considered by many to be the best footballer in the world remains unknown, with the press admitting different scenarios, from a trip to Saudi Arabia, where Cristiano Ronaldo is, a return to Barcelona or even an experience in the United States united.
