Orkun Kokçu, 22, a Turkish international midfielder for Feyenoord, could become the biggest signing ever for a Portuguese club if Benfica reach a transfer deal, which is an explicit request from coach Roger Schmidt to fill the midfield gap since the departure of Enzo Fernandez to Chelsea.
The price set by the Dutch leaders is 40 million and the Benfica SAD is willing to go up to 30 for 80% of the pass, which will be the largest purchase in Portuguese football. But the deal won’t be easy to complete, not least because the midfielder has been appointed to multiple Premier League emblems such as Liverpool, Arsenal, Manchester United and Brighton.
To date, only two players in Portugal have crossed the €20 million mark. The most expensive remains Darwin Nuñez, the Uruguayan striker for whom Benfica paid 24 million euros to Almería, from the Spanish II division.
