The Disciplinary Council of the Portuguese Football Federation has initiated a disciplinary file against Santiago Colombatto this Friday, after the alleged racist insult directed at Pepe.
“Initiation of the disciplinary process against Santiago Colombatto, by decision of the Non-Professional Section, of June 2, 2023, for events that occurred in a game counted for the Taça de Portugal Cartel, after the conversion of investigation process no. 39 – 2022/2023, processed by the FPF Disciplinary Investigation Commission”, announces the FPF body in a statement.
The case dates back to the second leg of the Portuguese Cup semifinal, when, around minute 90, the FC Porto captain appeared visibly emotional with the Famalicão midfielder and match referee, Manuel Mota. At the end of the game he explained the case, accusing Colombatto of calling him a monkey.
“It is sad that this happens among athletes of this level. Unfortunately the referee had no courage, he heard perfectly well that he called me ‘monkey’. Everyone knows what it is, it is monkey in Spanish,” revealed the defense. at the end of the match, requesting that the referee’s communications be heard to confirm the accusation.
The following day, Santiago Colombatto denied the accusations of the FC Porto player. “I want to think that it was a mistake, that he did not listen well to what I told him, although after analyzing his subsequent behavior I have doubts about it,” the outlet said in a statement posted on social networks.
“My words were literally ‘you kicked me, idiot’. There are images that prove it. In addition, I spoke to him in a close and friendly tone, in the context of a game and in line with what the figure of Pepe means to me So much so that after what happened I looked for him in the locker room to clarify what happened, but he didn’t even want to listen to me,” he explained.
