Djokovic in the final of Roland Garros after victory against Alcaraz

The Serbian tennis player Novak Djokovic was closer to isolating himself as a record holder of Grand Slam titles, after this Friday he advanced to the final of Roland Garros, defeating a “limited” Carlos Alcaraz.

In the first meeting between the two in a ‘major’, he was number three in the world by winning the duel of generations, beating the Spanish leader in the ATP ranking, just 20 years old, on the clay of Paris, in four sets, by 6- 3, 5-7, 6-1 and 6-1, in three hours and 23 minutes.

When the match was tied at one set and the third was about to start, Alcaraz was assisted after complaining of physical problems and was limited for the rest of the match, apparently due to cramps.

Djokovic will thus play his seventh final at Roland Garros on Sunday, a tournament he won in 2016 and 2021, seeking to take off Spanish Rafael Nadal in number of Grand Slam titles (both have 22). The 36-year-old Serbian will face the winner of the duel between the Norwegian Casper Ruud and the German Alexander Zverev, who will still face each other this Friday, in the decisive match.
