Manchester City and Inter Milan will compete this Saturday in the Champions League final, with the English looking for an unprecedented trophy, against an Italian team that already has three ‘ears’ in its history.
At the Atatürk Olympic Stadium in Istanbul, the newly established three-time English champions, including the Portuguese Rúben Dias and Bernardo Silva, have a second chance to win for the first time a trophy that eluded them in 2020/21, when they lost the decision with Chelsea, at the Estadio do Dragao.
Having secured the Premier League and the FA Cup this season, City are now looking for the ‘triple’ -made in England that only Manchester United achieved, in 1998/99- after, in the first phase, having distinction in the Group G, before eliminating Leipzig, in the round of 16, Bayern Munich, in the quarterfinals, and the champion, Real Madrid, in the semifinals.
Inter Milan, for their part, ‘survived’ a Group C in which they had Bayern and FC Barcelona as opponents, later becoming the ‘executioner’ of two Portuguese teams, FC Porto, in the round of 16, and Benfica, in the round of 16. ‘quarters’, in addition to having also surpassed the eternal rival AC Milan, in the ‘half’.
Although the ‘Nerazzurri’ reach the Champions League decision with less favoritism than Manchester City, they have a much richer record than their rival, taking into account that they have already won the main European club competition three times: in 1963/64, 1964/65 (against Benfica), both still in the old European Cup, and in 2009/10, under the command of the Portuguese José Mourinho.
Manchester City and Inter Milan will play from 8:00 p.m. (Lisbon time) at the Atatürk Olympic Stadium in Istanbul, in a match that will be led by the Pole Szymon Marciniak.
