No two without three for Iga Swiatek at Roland Garros

Polish tennis player Iga Swiatek won her third title at Roland Garros, second in a row, by defeating Czech Karolina Muchova in three sets in the final of the second major of the season.

Champion on clay in Paris in 2020 and 2022, the 22-year-old Pole triumphed over the 43rd tennis player in the WTA rankings, out of 26, 6-2, 5-7 and 6-4, in two hours and 46 minutes.

This is the fourth Grand Slam title for the world number one, who also won the US Open in 2022, with a 100% win record in majors finals.

Swiatek is the first tennis player to retain her title at Roland Garros since Justine Henin did so 16 years ago.

In terms of precocity, the Pole and now three-time Roland Garros champion is surpassed only by North American Serena Williams, former world number one, who took her fourth Grand Slam trophy at the age of 20, after triumphing at the US Open United in 1999, then 17 years old, Roland Garros, Wimbledon and the North American major in 2002.
