The Serbian tennis player Novak Djokovic saw his return to the top of the world ranking confirmed on Monday, one day after conquering Roland Garros, becoming the first man to win 23 Grand Slam tournaments.
‘Nole’, who surpassed the Spanish Rafael Nadal with the 23rd ‘major’, rose from third place to the first in the hierarchy, surpassing the Spanish Carlos Alcaraz (second) and the Russian Daniil Medvedev (third).
The Norwegian Casper Ruud, finalist in Paris and winner of the Estoril Open, remained in fourth place in the ATP ranking.
Rafael Nadal, who missed Roland Garros through injury, dropped 121 places to 136, breaking out of the top 100 for the first time since April 2003.
Among the Portuguese, Nuno Borges remains the best, rising to 73rd place, with Frederico Silva re-entering the top 200, currently occupying the 188th position.
João Sousa left the top 300 of the world ranking for the first time since August 9, 2010, falling to 309th place, after having recorded nine consecutive losses, counting challenger tournaments and rankings.
The Polish Iga Swiatek, who also won Roland Garros, remained at the top of the women’s ranking, followed by the Belarusian Aryna Sabalenka and the Kazakh Elena Rybakina.
The Brazilian Beatriz Haddad Maia, who reached the semifinals in Paris, rose to 10th, entering the top 10 for the first time, while the Czech Karolina Muchova, finalist of the French ‘major’, rose 27 places to 16th.
