Francisco J. Marques, communications director at FC Porto, was sentenced this Monday to one year and 10 months in prison, with a suspended sentence for the same period, for crimes of breach of correspondence and insult to the person in the process of publicizing the Benfica e emails.
“The defendant Francisco Marques engaged in what is called manipulation of information,” the judge said when reading the verdict, admitting that “a selection of communications” had been made.
Diogo Faria, content director for dragons, was in turn sentenced to nine months in prison, also suspended for one year, for breach of correspondence.
Júlio Magalhães, director of Porto Canal at the time, was acquitted of all crimes because the court ruled that he was “unable to prevent the spread of emails”.
The court also decided that Francisco J. Marques and Diogo Faria must pay 10,000 euros in damages to Luís Filipe Vieira, former president of Benfica
The case of the e-mail disclosure dates back to 2017 and 2018, with communication between elements related to the structure of Benfica and third parties revealed in the program “Universo Porto – da Benfica”, on Porto Canal, and began to be reviewed approximately six months ago on September 16, 2022.
