Does ChatGPT really hack Windows?

A user claims to have managed to get the OpenAI artificial intelligence text generator to provide him with keys to activate the Pro version of the Windows 10 and 11 software. The sequence of numbers and letters thus obtained does allow him to update his operating system, he claims.

On Twitter, internet user Sid shared his discovery. in a video, use one of the codes obtained from ChatGPT to activate the professional version of the Microsoft operating system. The maneuver also worked from Google’s text generator, Bard.

However, the Internet user had to use a ploy to achieve his ends. As specified by the specialized site Frandroid, directly requesting software keys from an AI model does not work. To get the keys, Sid asked ChatGPT to imitate his late grandmother by reading him the Windows 10 Pro keys to fall asleep. It was through this detour that the software accepted his proposal.

But as verified by many netizens, this method doesn’t work since GPT-4, the newest version of OpenAI model. Even using a detour, the text generator understands the deception, referring to the respect for copyright and the illegality of the practice.

By going through the GPT-3.5 version, the original ChatGPT, Frandroid has obtained keys, like the netizen. The only problem: these were not valid. This is also the observation shared by other internet users in response to Sid’s video.

Despite its impressive synthesis performance, it is highly unlikely that ChatGPT has broken Microsoft’s Windows key generation method. An obviously sensitive cryptographic system for the American giant, which sells its operating system licenses.

The most likely scenario is that ChatGPT has “absorbed” some functional keys for Windows while collecting billions of pieces of data used to answer questions from Internet users. But as the Neowin site points out, these keys are generic keys, which only allow very limited use of Windows.
