The video has gone viral on social media since it was posted on June 21. We see a small child sleeping, visibly disturbed sleep, imitating the gestures of using a touch pad. On Facebook, TikTok or Instagram, the video is widely shared.
It has been viewed more than 42 million times on Twitter as of Monday, June 26. If its content has once again raised fears about screen addiction in children, however, it casts doubt on its authenticity.
The video that has been broadcast the most could suggest that it is a sleeping child. However, when we look at the original video, it turns out that the image was rotated and then oriented in a different way, suggesting that the boy was lying down. This is not the case.
In this much better quality sequence, it’s easier to see that the boy is leaning against a wall. She too was ‘flipped’: the girl’s T-shirt appears backwards in the widely circulated video. In fact, therefore, she is more likely to be an angry child than a baby who automatically imitates using a tablet in her sleep.
If the original is close to the video that has been broadcast in recent days, the intention is not really the same. In addition to being modified to suggest that the child was sleeping, it was supplemented with dramatic music to generate sustained engagement for the concern of netizens.
