This is one of the key periods of the year for French commerce: the summer sales. They begin on June 28 for a period of four weeks, up to and including July 25. Consumers will be able to benefit from more or less attractive discounts on many products and services.
But you have to take into account an important rule when buying online: the withdrawal period. If it is not mandatory for a purchase made directly in a store, it is for purchases online, by phone or remotely, as established in the Consumer Code.
There is no justification for giving
This withdrawal period allows, within the 14 days following the day of the conclusion of the contract (for a service) or the receipt of the product (for a good) to be able to change your mind, without giving any justification for the return.
Since May 2022, the obligations of online sellers have also been reinforced: they must provide consumers with a withdrawal form when making a purchase, the content of which is regulated by article R221-1 of Consumption.
Therefore, this withdrawal form must be sent to the seller within the famous period of 14 days. Then you have an additional 14 days to return the product, from the sending of the withdrawal letter. Please note that this letter is required to assert your desire to change your mind. A simple return of the product or a refusal to receive the package from the delivery person does not necessarily have value.
Subsequent reimbursement must be made to you using the same type of payment method as the one used for the purchase. However, a request can be made to change the means of payment if necessary. If the seller takes too long to reimburse you, the amounts owed may increase in proportion to the accumulated delay. And if the online merchant simply refuses to refund you, consumer associations like 60 Million Consumers or UFC Que Choisir can be garnished.
