After Xnspy, KidsGuard, TheTruthSpy or Support King spyware, it’s LetMeSpy’s turn to get hacked, the specialized media report TechCrunchwhich clarifies that most of the features of the software and the app itself now seem to be out of order.
LetMeSpy can spy on someone’s Android phone. The app is designed not to appear on the phone’s home screen, making it difficult to detect and remove. Installed directly on the phone of the target person, without their consent and without their knowledge, it gives access to their messages, their call history and their geographical position. All this data is downloaded in real time and is visible to the spy.
The hacker would have had access to the email addresses, phone numbers and content of the messages collected from the victims’ phones, but also to the database that contains information, such as the email addresses of 26,000 customers who used spyware.
The hacked database, accessed by TechCrunch, also contains files from at least 13,000 compromised devices with call histories dating back to 2013. Most of the victims are in the United States, India, and West Africa. The hacker said that he had deleted the LetMeSpy databases stored on his server.
an illegal practice
It remains to be seen if LetMeSpy will notify the victims of this attack and if the company has the ability to do so, as the hacked data does not contain any identifiable information that could be used to notify them.
Also, spying on someone’s phone using spyware is illegal and punishable by law. The Criminal Code punishes “fraudulent access and maintenance in an automated data processing system” with three years in prison and a fine of 100,000 euros according to article 323-1 of the Criminal Code.
To find out if LetMeSpy is on your Android phone, the app is called “LMS”. You can also enable Google Play Protect, available in the Google Play settings menu to protect against malicious apps.
