Disappointment for WhatsApp users on PC. Some of them have noticed that the messaging service is no longer operational on this platform and that it shows a message indicating that its validity period has expired, the specialized site WABetaInfo reported on June 27. In fact, the WhatsApp team has stopped supporting the previous version of messaging, intended for Windows.
Don’t panic though – users are advised to upgrade to the newly introduced native app in Windows to continue using WhatsApp on their desktop devices. All they need to do is uninstall their current version of the messaging service and download the new native WhatsApp app available from the Microsoft Store.
A better user experience
Otherwise, they can resort to the Web version of the platform, in particular if they want to continue to benefit from the professional messaging functionalities, such as the configuration of quick replies or the acquisition of statistics, which are absent (for the moment) from the new native app.
This change is because WhatsApp removed the Electron framework, a framework for building mobile apps. According to Meta, the move is aimed at bringing a more streamlined, stable, and feature-rich messaging experience on desktop devices.
Updates and new features
However, the app’s abandonment wasn’t all that unexpected as WhatsApp notified users over a month ago by displaying a countdown timer right on the app’s main screen.
In recent weeks, WhatsApp has added new features, both on mobile and desktop devices. Starting with the possibility of filtering unwanted calls, modifying a message that has already been sent or even hiding intimate conversations by blocking their access with a PIN code.
