It is a massive madness that the Threads application has been receiving for several hours, which must arrive to compete with Twitter. Launched on the night of Wednesday 5 to Thursday 6 July, the new social network of the Meta group (Facebook) already has more than 10 million subscribers.
There are no threads in Europe at this time
Earlier in the morning, the impatience of Internet users had been felt when the bar of five million members had been crossed in just four hours. The tendency to join this new solution, intended as an alternative to Twitter, seems to be accelerating.
Threads is not currently planned for release in Europe. The app is still not found in the French app stores. The Meta group has chosen to ignore the European market to avoid long and tedious procedures to comply with local regulations.
In particular, Meta wants to give itself time to clarify the consequences for the company and its products of the new digital marketplace regulations (DMA), which came into force in early May, a source familiar with the matter told AFP.
The DMA aims to impose specific rules on essential Internet businesses, particularly Meta, to prevent anti-competitive practices.
