The Court of Paris must dictate, this Friday, July 7, its decision on the blocking of pornographic sites in France. Presented by Arcom, this request aims to penalize pornographic sites for lack of age control, allowing minors to visit the sites in question.
It is for this very reason that some US states have taken the step and blocked access to online pornography. In Utah, for example, MindGeek, the parent company of Pornhub and RedTube, has withdrawn its services since May 2023 due to a law passed that requires strict age screening.
how do you remember The world, The United States has not adopted any federal laws regulating access to pornographic sites. It is the States that organize independently, adopting laws that force sites to establish rigorous and effective age control systems.
drop in attendance
In Louisiana, for example, identification is now subject to a driver’s license check, implemented by a third-party company since January 2023. Pornhub then communicated on Twitter, on June 30, stating that traffic to his site had decreased by 80% as a result of the decision. A drastic drop, which led MindGeek, its parent company, to withdraw its services from Louisiana as well.
Therefore, we are not really talking about a “block” at the state level, since the decisions, although limited, were made by MindGeek, just as it could be the case in France according to the Court’s decision.
Now, the most visited online porn sites are not available in Utah, Louisiana, Virginia, and Mississippi. Other States could be affected quickly.
Despite everything, Internet users resort to devious means to continue accessing pornography online. In Utah, right after the Pornhub block, requests for VPN services spiked in the state. VPNs allow Internet users to be located almost anywhere in the world, bypassing any restrictions related to their place of residence.
