For two years, the legal battle has pitted Arcom, the audiovisual and digital regulator, against five pornographic sites: Pornhub, XVideos or XHamster, Tukif and Xnxx. In 2021, Arcom initiated the request to block these five sites since since July 2020, the law specifies that companies cannot be exonerated from their responsibilities with a simple declaration of majority.
In July 2022, Arcom seized the Paris court because the publishers did not respect the formal notice. For their part, the sites question this analysis, because they consider that the age verification methods are too vague. The five affected sites can appeal the decision.
Double anonymity and exclusion
The Ministry of Digital announced in early March the experimentation of a “double anonymity” age verification solution for to block the access of minors to pornographic sites.
