How is Twitter trying to counter the rise of Threads?

Annoyed by the spectacular increase in Threads in terms of the number of subscribers, Elon Musk intends to further expand the field of possible Twitter functions.

There have already been many changes on Twitter in recent months: the arrival of the Twitter Blue paid subscription, the hassle of certifications, new news feed views, or even more or less random moderation. And Elon Musk wants even more.

According to information from Zoe Schiffer, a journalist for the specialized platform Platformer, the owner of the social network would have sent an email to his remaining employees to remind them that “the company must offer better functions faster than ever.”

Hidden likes and “newsletter”

This pressure placed on the shoulders of Twitter employees would have been accentuated with the sensational arrival of Threads, the competitor presented by Meta. Released on the various app stores (not yet officially for France) on July 5, the social network recorded the strongest growth for an app, with 100 million users after five days of operation, breaking the ChatGPT record .

Elon Musk is thinking about what new features could appear on his social network in the coming weeks. On his Twitter account, he thus announced the imminent arrival of an automatic email that will group all recently bookmarked tweets. This type of weekly newsletter should make it easy for users to remember tweets they bookmark in the hopes of reading them later.

Other rumors also mention the future possibility of hiding their likes. In the settings, the user could choose to hide the “likes” tab of their profile. There is no indication at this time if this feature will be available only to Twitter Blue subscribers or to all users, which seems unlikely given the trajectory operated by Elon Musk in recent months.

Twitter thus hopes with these new features to counteract Threads, which for its part already plans to enrich its content, which is very basic at the moment. In a post on Threads, Adam Mosseri, the CEO of Instagram, announced the next arrival of the missing options, namely a news feed for followed accounts, a search bar but above all an edit button, once than the nerves of war on Twitter and today only available to Twitter Blue subscribers.
