A very bad find that ruined your weekend. Madison and her friend spent Ascension weekend in Dingy-Saint-Clair, near Annecy. In their Airbnb listing, they discovered a hidden camera in an alarm clock across from the shower. Justice has opened an investigation, reports France Bleu Haute-Savoie.
Following this discovery, Madison immediately contacted Airbnb, who told her to leave the listing immediately and offer alternative accommodation. She then decides to go to the nearest gendarmerie with the camera.
“We spent four hours with the gendarmes,” Madison confided last May on her TikTok account, in a video viewed more than 1.8 million times. A 32-gig SD card was found in the camera that had been storing videos since March.
“This guy had hundreds of positive reviews, apparently he was the right family man in every way. There was no reason to suspect anything,” Madison told local radio.
Online advertising on other platforms
The Annecy prosecutor’s office has opened an investigation for image capture and invasion of privacy and has sent a request to Airbnb to identify other possible victims. So far, 14 other people have been found in the videos, according to Madison and her friend.
For its part, Airbnb states that the ad has been removed from the platform. However, this one is back online on other home rental platforms. “We reached out to these sites, but they say it wasn’t on their platform, so no problem,” Madison said.
She also deplores the fact that she hasn’t been compensated by Airbnb: “We’ve never been compensated other than Airbnb rent reimbursement, I find it disrespectful after what happened.”
Last December, in a rented accommodation in Rouen, a tourist had also discovered a camera hidden in a digital clock.
To detect the possible presence of a hidden camera in the devices, there are some simple techniques such as passing the flash of your phone over suspicious objects. The camera lens will then act as a mirror.
