Second-hand sales platform Vinted is currently the target of a scam campaign. In fact, our Numerama colleagues alert about an email circulating, stating “your account has been temporarily blocked”. This is a phishing email, intended to collect personal and bank details of the victims.
The email is based in particular on an alleged “atypical operation” linked to the victim’s Vinted account and therefore requests an update of the payment information. Unlike many phishing campaigns, it’s quite persuasive and well-written, with its sender listing “the Vinted team,” but the domain name has nothing to do with the second-hand clothing reselling business, which was recently scammed by fake Paypal.
Just by clicking on the link in the email, the victim reaches a dubious platform, intended to fraudulently recover bank details.
frequent scams
These phishing campaigns are common on the web. To avoid being scammed, always check the sender’s email address. So, if you receive such an email and you are concerned, it is better that you go directly to the corresponding platform with their identifiers to verify that there really is a problem.
Finally, government services, such as Ameli or the tax department, which are regularly scammed, will never ask for personal information via email or SMS.
If you receive this type of email, you can report it to the dedicated government platform. If you have been a victim of this scam, you should quickly contact your bank, but also file a complaint.
