WhatsApp: Here’s how to share your screen content during a video call

The messaging service now allows a user to transmit, in real time, the content of his screen on that of his interlocutor during a videoconference.

She was boarded, now she’s deployed. Last May, the WABetaInfo site indicated that the Android beta version of WhatsApp included new features, such as screen sharing during a video call. This option is already available to all customers of the messaging service, said Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Meta, in a post published on Facebook on August 8.

Whether reviewing work documents with colleagues, viewing photos with family, planning vacations or shopping online with friends, users can now stream real-time content displayed on their screen to their contacts during their call.

How to share your screen on WhatsApp

  • Start a video chat with one of your contacts. Touch the “Share” icon on the interface at the bottom of the screen.
  • Select “Get started” in the window that requests your consent to the terms of use of screen sharing on WhatsApp
  • The mention “You are sharing your screen” is displayed. It means that the transmission is effective: the navigation inside your phone is transmitted live on the screen of your interlocutor

With this unprecedented feature, WhatsApp is catching up with the competition. For good reason, apps like Zoom or Microsoft Meet already offer these types of devices. Also, to ensure the confidentiality of your personal data, WhatsApp specifies that this feature is protected by end-to-end encryption.

The shared screen “is never registered by WhatsApp. No one outside this call, not even WhatsApp, can see or hear what you are sharing on your screen,” says the messaging service.
