Be careful, the heat wave is also very risky for your smartphone

The heat wave poses a threat to the integrity of the electronic components of your smartphone. However, some precautions can protect your device from intense heat.

Several departments are on red alert and many heat records have been broken. Since Friday, August 18, France has been experiencing a long-lasting heat wave that has put organizations to the test. But so are smartphones.

Battery deterioration, overheating, PCB degradation or even less responsiveness of the touch screen: these successive waves of heat can have deleterious effects on the internal components and performance of your device.

And unlike computers or game consoles, smartphones do not include a fan to cool them. Therefore, it is essential to limit their temperature as much as possible so as not to damage them.

The temperature should not exceed 35°C.

In this sense, Apple reminds that its devices are designed to function correctly between 0°C and 35°C. On its website, the US technology giant advises to avoid “exposing the device to ambient temperatures above 35 °C”, under penalty of “irreversibly” damaging the battery capacity.

A recommendation on android smartphones and that also applies when a device is not turned on. It is also possible to check the battery temperature on certain Android smartphones from the settings menu. Otherwise, easy to configure manipulations will allow you to keep your terminal at an acceptable temperature.

Do not expose your smartphone to the sun

Outside, keep it in a shady place, under a tree, an awning or an umbrella for example. You can also use clothes or accessories. to create shelter.

Above all, do not place your terminal on hot surfaces such as sand, cement or metal, which absorb heat and can transmit it to your smartphone. Do not leave it behind the windshield of your car. Instead, store it in the vehicle’s glove box.

Limit smartphone activity

It is recommended that you put your phone in airplane mode to ease activity on internal components and save battery power. Turn off running apps, lower the screen light intensity level, and turn off Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and GPS if they are working properly.

Also, avoid taking photos and videos (activity that raises the temperature of the device very quickly), as well as using applications that consume energy such as Snapchat or Instagram.

Apple lists other uses that can raise the temperature of a mobile: restore from a backup, charge wirelessly or watch high-definition videos.

Pay attention to the state of the battery.

Make sure to use original (or certified) chargers and cables to charge the battery. Also go to the “Battery and device maintenance” section available in the “Settings” menu of most smartphones. Here you can optimize battery performance.

Activating the “energy saving” mode is also a good alternative to avoid draining the battery too much. Finally, avoid charging your phone as much as possible during a major heat episode. If you can’t do anything else, reduce the loading time as much as possible.

Remove the case from your smartphone

Plastic is an insulating material that retains both heat and cold. If your device has such a protective cover, remove it to reduce the temperature of the device.

Avoid temperature shocks

It is strongly recommended not to put your smartphone in the fridge or freezer. In question, there is the risk of thermal shock that can irreversibly damage the operation of the smartphone.

Also, do not think about submerging your device in water: if recent mobiles are usually resistant to this liquid, they are not waterproof.
