On TikTok, a (false) rumor evokes a staggered start to September 18

The videos that accumulate hundreds of thousands of views on the Chinese platform ensure that the start of the school year has been delayed. Wrongly.

For some, this is unexpected news that would extend the holidays by a few days: the start of the school year was finally postponed to September 18. But contrary to recent TikTok videos, this is not the case. It will be necessary to go to school, college or high school this Monday, September 4, first thing in the morning.

As is often the case on TikTok, it is difficult to find the exact source of this false information. Among the most popular sequences, a video posted by the “Iroyspam” account (followed by 380,000 people) has been viewed 2.6 million times. It is a fictitious information site, called “Actudujour.fr”, created at the end of August, which displays a false document using the visual identity of the Ministry of National Education.

Dozens of publications

“The government has decided to reinstate conscription into the school curriculum for the 2023/2024 academic year. This decision, directly related to the recent military activities in Russia and China, was made with the aim of strengthening national security.” , secure the site. without these observations having any connection with real information.

The same site evokes an intervention by Emmanuel Macron on August 25 to formalize this imaginary postponement of the start of the school year. An intervention that evidently never took place.

On TikTok, the keyword “Rentrée18septembre” is associated with dozens of posts that welcome this fictitious postponement. Some also accumulate almost a million views, like the sequence published by the tiktoker Iroy.

Some accounts have picked up on this false information, such as the Michigan Academy account, whose video has amassed over 300,000 views, while others pretend to ask the question, such as the “Just-lucow” account, which has 640,000 subscribers.
