In a few months, Apple’s Lightning port, used for over a decade, should all but disappear from its product lines. On September 12, the brand will present its iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro, which will be its first smartphones to change Lightning to USB-C, a connection identical to that of Android models. The latter should allow for the harmonization of accessories and a better loading speed. But the evolution will also affect AirPods, claims Bloomberg on August 29.
No major news
As other specialists, usually very knowledgeable, have recently announced, the AirPods case should be modified after the conference. In a few weeks (during September), AirPods will be entitled, like the iPhone, to a new USB-C port.
At first Apple would simply change the casing of the headphones to adapt them to the new connectors of their smartphones. So we would have to wait until 2024, or even early 2025, to take advantage of the new versions of the brand’s wireless headphones. according to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, whose information often turns out to be correct. A more affordable AirPods model is also being prepared, around 100 euros.
Apple currently offers three versions of its AirPods: the second-generation AirPods, sold for €159, the third-generation AirPods, sold for €219, and the second-generation AirPods Pro, offered for €299. Except for surprise, all three models should be affected by the arrival of USB-C.
