China: Steal an iPhone 14 by cutting the anti-theft cable with your teeth

In China, images of a young woman stealing an iPhone 14 from a store have gone viral. In question, the modus operandi adopted to perpetrate the theft.

An unusual robbery attempt. Qiu, a Chinese citizen from Fujian province (China), was arrested after stealing an iPhone 14 Plus (sold for 1,169 euros in France) from a store in the region, reports the South China Morning Post.

His modus operandi: cut the anti-theft cable of the smartphone by biting it with his teeth and then discreetly leaving the premises, as shown by the CCTV camera images of the establishment. An unorthodox technique that has the merit of discretion. Although an alarm sounded at the time of the operation, the young woman herself was not worried at the time.

It was the store staff who noticed the gnawed cable and the disappearance of the phone shortly after his departure. By examining the CCTV camera footage, the police were able to reconstruct the sequence of events, identify Qiu, and arrest him in front of his home.

“He has strong teeth”

Before the authorities, the author of the robbery detailed her motive. After losing her phone, the young woman went to this store with the intention of buying a new terminal. But she, seeing the high prices of the devices, changed her mind and decided to steal one. She was detained pending further investigation.

The news sparked numerous reactions on Chinese social media, reports the South China Morning Post. Especially since the images of the robbery went viral on the Internet. The Chinese media thus collect several comments from Internet users, sometimes incredulous, sometimes funny. “He has strong teeth,” one commented.
