Switch 2: Nintendo would have made the first demonstrations of its future console

The launch of Nintendo’s next console is scheduled for the end of 2024, almost eight years after the launch of the Switch.

If the Gamescom in Cologne (Germany) was an opportunity to discover the main video games at the end of the year, the show is also a professional meeting, which allows brands to discuss with their partners. In this context, Nintendo would have discreetly presented a first version of the long-awaited Switch 2, which will succeed the Switch.

Launch at the end of 2024

According to the two specialized sites Eurogamer and VGC, Nintendo would have shown the technical potential of its future console to a handful of developers. According to both sources, the Japanese company’s teams used in particular a more advanced version of the The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wildtitle that accompanied the launch of Switch in 2017. This does not mean that it will be reissued for the launch of Switch 2.

According to the same sources, Nintendo would have revealed the technical potential of the Switch 2 by demonstrating the Unreal Engine 5 graphics engine, based on the Matrix movie. A sequence already used for the PS5 and the Xbox Series X. As VGC reminds us, such a demonstration does not imply that Nintendo’s handheld console will offer comparable power to that of the two home consoles.

According to previous rumors, the Switch 2 will retain the same mode of operation as the first of the name, with the possibility of using the console on the go or connecting it to your television. With the aging of Switch and the sharp drop in sales of accessories and games, the launch window would be set for the end of 2024, to make the most of the holidays.
