They are headphones that seem taken from another era. The Realistic Nova 40 are headphones that marked the 90s, especially due to their presence in many ears of grunge fans. The most prominent star of the musical movement, Kurt Cobain, leader of the group Nirvana, succumbed to the device.
Today technologically outdated by new models, it was nevertheless the subject of a recent sale. A German collector, Felix Zimmermann, acquired the copy that belonged to the singer. There is no auction here, says the specialized site Audioviser. But rather a private exchange between experts who wish to perpetuate the legacy of the iconic artist.
A selling price of $70,000
Audioviser cites sources close to the Cobain family to cite a sale price of $70,000. Felix Zimmermann explains that buying this Realistic Nova 40 was like buying “a tangible piece of music history.” Found for about twenty euros on the Internet, the helmet saw its value multiplied by 3,500 with this sale.
Kurt Cobain’s helmet appears in a photo of the singer when he was still a child. In the photo, he is holding his bass, installed in front of a microphone, with the Realistic Nova 40 pressed to his ears.
