“Big kid,” “awakened virus,” “demon mode”: a biography paints a complex portrait of Elon Musk

A biography of Elon Musk is published on Wednesday, September 13 in France. Now available in the United States, it analyzes the obsessions and brutal methods of the richest man in the world.

The long-awaited new biography of Elon Musk, which will premiere this Tuesday, September 12 in the United States, portrays a complex individual, obsessed with the conquest of space, with brutal management methods and lacking empathy.

Walter Isaacson, known for a series of successful biographies, including that of Apple co-founder Steve Jobs (2011), enjoyed unprecedented access to the capricious businessman, whom he interviewed on numerous occasions.

According to excerpts from the book cited by several American media, which had access to the work, the author describes an Elon Musk devoured by the desire to make the human species a “multiplanetary” population, thanks to his aerospace company SpaceX.

For him, the “awakening virus”, in reference to the activism that seeks to promote and defend all minorities, presents the risk of derailing the colonization of other planets, Mars in the first place, because it is “anti-human in general” and must ” stop it.”

Ready to humiliate your employees.

According to Walter Isaacson, the richest man in the world is a “big boy” who remains marked by a youth during which he was regularly bullied at school.

Elon Musk spoke to his biographer about Asperger’s syndrome, a form of autism he was diagnosed with, which explains, by his own admission, why he is “bad at decoding relational signals” in his relationships with others.

The South African is described as “drawn by storm and drama”, subject to “unpredictable emotional oscillations”, which manifest themselves in the way he directs the companies of which he is head.

The book, which will be published in France on Wednesday, September 13, evokes in particular several examples of the anger of Elon Musk, furious when his employees do not respond to his expectations or ready to humiliate them if they resist him.

For singer Grimes, the businessman’s former partner, he goes into “demon mode” when he expresses his irritation, a state that “generates a lot of chaos,” he confided to the biographer.

Walter Isaacson reveals, about the Canadian artist, that she had a third child with Elon Musk, via surrogacy (GPA) and a surrogate mother, while the former couple had only talked about two babies until now.

This brings the number of Elon Musk’s known living children to ten, including two with an executive at one of his companies, Neuralink, to whom he donated sperm. “He wants people to have children,” Shivon Zilis, mother of these twins born in 2021, told the author.
