Google Pixel Watch owners would do well to take care of their smartwatch. Not in vain, on Reddit and on the Google support forum dedicated to the Pixel Watch, several expressed their frustration over the impossibility of repairing the screen of the Google product in case of breakage, reports The Verge.
The media explains that it detected this information by examining a message exchange between a user of the watch and a representative of the Google support forum. The netizen says that he broke the screen of his Pixel Watch after he dropped it. Support representative’s response: Google “does not have any repair or service center” for the device.
“At this time, we do not have a repair option for the Google Pixel Watch. If your watch is damaged, you can contact the Google Pixel Watch customer support team to verify your replacement options,” confirmed the Google spokesperson, Bridget Starkey, to The Verge.
A repair that, however, is possible
And it is impossible to have the guarantee policy offered by Google. This states that the limited warranty inherent in its products “does not apply to damage caused by: normal wear and tear, accidents, misuse (including failure to comply with product documentation), negligence, disassembly, product modifications, repairs performed by a technician not authorized by Google” as well as “external causes such as liquid damage, exposure to sharp objects” or “excessive force exposure.”
Therefore, Pixel Watch owners must rely on their own devices in case of damage caused by accidental drops or bumps. Additionally, Google does not offer an extended warranty for your device. However, it is technically possible to repair the connected watch, reports iFixit. The site also offers detailed instructions for replacing a damaged or out of order Goole Pixel Watch screen.
Was Google soon forced to repair?
The Mountain View company is not the only one that makes it difficult to support its connected watches. Repairing an Apple Watch has always been an expensive task. For example, an Apple Series 8 costs 359 euros and is not covered by AppleCare Plus, Apple’s support and repair service. The price goes up to 619 euros for a Watch Ultra.
With AppleCare Plus, this price drops to 65 euros for the Apple Series 8 and 75 euros for the Apple Watch Ultra, not including the cost of AppleCare Plus itself. If Apple at least offers the possibility of being able to send an Apple Watch for repair, Google may have no choice but to follow in the footsteps of its competitor.
California passed a right-to-repair bill earlier this week, requiring companies to make replacement parts available for electronic devices. For three years if they cost $50 or more, and for seven years for devices that cost $100 or more.
