Does the iPhone 15 really only need to be charged with an Apple USB-C cable?

It is rumored that the Apple cable is the only one that can be used, otherwise it could cause overheating. However, this is false.

With every iPhone launch comes its share of controversies. For the new Apple smartphone, the question of the new fabric casing is especially debated. And on the other hand, a false rumor claims that Apple, forced to install a USB-C port on its device, would have ensured that Android USB-C cables were not fully compatible, thus causing the phones to overheat.

This rumor originated in China, where stores were reportedly advising against using an Android cable with new iPhones. But Apple has never communicated about it.

In reality, the iPhone 15 could be charged with any cable, even from another manufacturer, it has been confirmed Technology and company from an internal source. On the other hand, the devices are based on two different technologies: USB 2 for the iPhone 15/15 Plus and USB 3 for the iPhone 15 Pro/15 Pro Max. However, to achieve higher file transfer speeds on the iPhone 15 Pro, you need a dedicated USB 3 cable (optional). But the included USB-C cable allows you to charge the device without worries.

The only advantage of opting for a cable sold by Apple: it adapts to the specificities of the iPhone and can therefore cope with its possible needs. But this would not be one of the possible reasons for the observed warming, probably due to the synchronization period of a new iPhone.

Pay attention to the accessories chosen.

Be careful, though, as Apple no longer provides a power adapter, you’ll need to find one that supports USB-C, if you’re not charging via the USB-C port on a Mac or PC.

And as always, as with the cable, the best advice for your iPhone is to avoid the lowest prices found in stores or commercial sites. They do not always meet safety standards and can present much greater risks than simply heating a smartphone.

How to choose the right USB-C cable?

Even if you don’t have the budget to invest in an “official” brand cable (whatever it may be), you have to have some good reflexes when choosing it:

– Verify that your cable is USB-IF certified. This is an organization that conducts testing to ensure that the USB-C cable meets certain safety and reliability standards.

– Choose well-established brands (Anker, Belkin, Rhinoshield, etc.). Sometimes they are slightly higher prices, but the products are more reinforced and will last longer.

– Pay attention to the advice. If the USB-C socket is reinforced and the cables are not likely to come loose or break, that is better.

– Think about what you are going to use it for (charging, transferring files, videos, photos, etc.). Not all cables have the same possibilities, nor do smartphones. If your device only supports USB 2, there is no need to invest a fortune in a USB 4 cable…
