As always, Apple prefers to play the turtle in the race for new technologies. Almost a year after the much-fancied launch of ChatGPT in November 2022, the Apple company has finally deigned to delve into the topic, while its main competitors Microsoft, Google, Amazon and even Baidu or Meta have entered the scene. Goal: Launch a new Siri powered by generative AI in 2024.
Recover lost time
The information was relayed by Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman: Apple executives would have been “taken by surprise by the sudden fever around this technology since the launch of ChatGPT” and have been fighting “since the end of last year to regain the lost time”. . This situation would even generate “a lot of anxiety” and would be considered “a pretty big failure.”
In his defense, Tim Cook recently claimed to have been working on generative AI for several years. In fact, an internal source confirmed last July that Apple would be developing its own generative AI model called “Ajax.”
A new generative Siri for 2024
But new details about this project have been revealed. In total, 3 people would be responsible for the project: John Giannandrea and Craig Federighi, Apple’s vice presidents of AI, and Eddy Cue, head of services. They have about a billion dollars a year available to build an improved version of Siri.
This new version of the assistant could be ready next year, we learn, particularly in iOS 18. This could allow you, for example, to take the famous “T9” predictive input to the next level with a Siri that helps you complete your messages or improve content creation in Pages, Keynote, iMovie…
Ultimately, all of Apple’s apps could be powered by generative AI, but Apple fans will surely have to be patient (again) to confirm this.
