Google Meet will now offer its users “beauty” filters, which will allow them to improve their appearance during video conferences. The company announced in a press release published on Wednesday, October 18, that it had developed this function, which it notes as “highly requested” by its users.
Erased dark circles and smooth skin.
The three points to which this touch-up refers are the smoothing of the skin, the lightening of dark circles and the whitening of the eyes.
This “portrait retouch” has two levels: a “subtle” mode, with slight highlights, and a more pronounced “softened” level. This feature should “slightly touch up your appearance,” according to the press release.

These “filters” are quite similar to those offered by social media filters such as Tiktok and Snapchat, which allow you to soften features or apply virtual makeup.
The latter, very popular, range from the lightest to the most visible, such as Tiktok’s “Bold Glamor” filter, which has been widely criticized for its risks to users’ mental health. Google, however, seems to offer only very slight changes that are still appropriate in a professional context.
At the moment, this new feature is only available to users with a Premium account, a work account, a Google One account, or even a Google Workspace Individual account. Personal Google accounts are not affected. It was implemented from October 18 on mobile devices and then, at the end of the year, on the computer version.
