Google DeepMind to TSF. “Artificial intelligence is the cognitive prosthesis” that the economy needs

The day Google publishes the study impact of artificial intelligence in Portugal, and estimates that it could reach 15 billion euros in Gross Added Value (equivalent to 8% of GVA), the TSF publish in first hand, the interview to the vice president of Google DeepMind, Fernando Pereira.

During his visit to Lisbon, he talks about artificial intelligence as “a cognitive prosthesis” that will change several sectors, from health to services. He also reveals what we can expect from Bard – a sort of ChatGPT from Google that arrived in Portugal in July – and the features of the new Pixel phone.

Who is Fernando Pereira?

He received a PhD in Artificial Intelligence from the University of Edinburgh in 1982 and has over 120 research publications in computational linguistics, machine learning, bioinformatics, speech recognition and logic programming, as well as several patents. He is a member of AAAI, ACM and ACL; member of the American Philosophical Society, the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, and the National Academy of Engineering; and former president of the Association for Computational Linguistics.
