The James Webb telescope captures an image of the heart of the Milky Way with Portuguese contribution

The image released now confirms that the James Webb telescope managed to capture the dense center of the Milky Way, with details of the heart of our galaxy, through gas and dust, thanks to NIRCam (Near Infrared Camera) technology, which adds value scientist.

Still unexplained by astronomers, even because it has never been seen before, the region is home to an area of space where stars are born, known as Sagittarius C, which is located 300 light years from the supermassive black hole at the center of the Milky Way, called Sagittarius A and even affected by the radiation of densely populated stars, this intense nursery witnesses the birth of some 500,000 stars.

This is a mission that had the contribution of ISQ, a Portuguese group that is present at ESQS – Europe Spatial Qualité Sécurité and monitored the safety of operations, through environmental verification and protection, satellite compliance (including operational procedures), security and operating licenses. , and also provided support for final preparation operations.

In fact, ISQ was responsible for verifying compliance with the electrical and radio frequency tests (antennas), the filling of the fuel tanks and the respective pressurization operations, as well as the final integration to the launcher.

In a statement, the company assures that its experience in this field comes from afar, providing Quality Assurance/Control services, at the European Space Center, in French Guiana, for almost two decades, with a magnificent team and excellent employees. which is permanently at the Kouru aerospace base. We also work on the operational quality (onboard quality and ground quality) of the Ariane 5, Soyuz and Vega launch systems.

ISQ considers that Portugal has invested more and more in the aerospace industry and fortunately today we have several important companies working in this area and recognized internationally. In a statement, he also highlights that it has been very interesting to see that the Portuguese government has been considering this as an area for the future, so all the conditions exist for Portugal to assert itself as a reference in certain components. of the aerospace cluster in the medium term and hopes that within the framework of Portugal 2030 it will be considered a strategic sector.
