If you are a subscriber to the Starzplay platform, you will surely have noticed a change since the end of September, and not least. The American streaming service has been revamped. In the program: change of graphic identity but above all change of name. The platform is now called Lionsgate+, referring to the parent company, Lionsgate Entertainment Corp.
A new name… but not everywhere
The redesigned streaming service is available in all 63 countries with access to Lionsgate+. However, only 35 countries were able to observe the name change, notably France, where the brand launched a major communication campaign. In the United States or Canada, for example, the platform is still called Starzplay. The StarzPlay Arabia and LionsGate Play brands in Asia will also keep their current form.
This restructuring is part of the brand’s desire to become a major player in global streaming, particularly since its acquisition of Starz, an American pay-TV channel, in 2016.
“Operating as Lionsgate+ internationally provides a distinct and differentiated identity in an increasingly competitive international marketplace and builds on the value of the Lionsgate brand, which our extensive research has shown our strength around the world. Even with Lionsgate’s operations separate Starz and Lionsgate studio, the Lionsgate brand remains indispensable to the growing success of our international platform,” said Jeffrey Hirsch, CEO of Starz, announcing the project in London at the end of September.
Original series of several years.
Lionsgate+ now offers nearly 60 series and 100 movie licenses, including the various films in the universe Spiderman or the classic the green line. Above all, the service can count on its new series and its twenty “Lionsgate+ Originals” as gas light with Julia Roberts and Sean Penn.
Since its arrival in France in 2019, movie and series lovers could already take advantage of the Starzplay range in many ways. First with the Apple TV application that offers a tab dedicated to Starzplay programs for three years. In February 2021, the CANAL+ offer was enriched with all the content of the American platform. As of May 2022, the American streaming service had 20 million subscribers worldwide. In France it is charged 4.99 euros per month.
