“Hour of Code” provides programming training to teachers and students

Teachers and students from various educational institutions throughout the country were summoned to the “Hour of Code”, in order to promote programming among students in Portuguese schools.

“The Hour of Code consists of a practical workshop, in which students learn to program through fun games and explanatory videos. All students can participate, regardless of their age and skill level. These initiatives already have support from more than 400 partners and 200,000 educators around the world. The theme of this year’s Hour of Code is ‘Creativity with Artificial Intelligence’. Its goal is for students to explore the creative opportunities that artificial intelligence offers and learn about its potential and impact,” reports the Santander Portugal Foundation in a statement.

The initiative is from Code.org: “Throughout the year, and especially this week, teachers are encouraged to host their own Hour of Code events. Any teacher, regardless of subject, can host an Hour of Code completely free of charge by accessing the Code.org platform.”

The first “Hour of Code” took place at 9:30 a.m. on Monday, at Santander’s headquarters in Lisbon, “with the presence of more than 200 students.” The initiative will be valid until Friday.
