The announcement was the subject of general surprise. This Thursday, December 7, early last night, the couple announced their separation and the end of the adventure on the platform from the Vilebrequin YouTube channel.
With other projects in perspective, the two friends leave behind a community of almost 2.5 million people on YouTube. Beyond a “good memory,” there are also a large number of flagship concepts that will no longer be supported. Here are the three most notable, in our opinion.
· The history of the 1000tipla
You may not be a car enthusiast, but you may be familiar with the 1000tipla. A (crazy) evolution of the car from the Italian manufacturer Fiat, the Multipla. Produced in 400,000 examples, many mock the family car for its unique design and round shapes. The whole subject of Vilbrequin’s first video on the subject in December 2018, which already has 1.9 million views.
Described as “the worst car in the world” by the two friends, you will find yourself at the center of a crazy challenge. Increases the power of the Italian vehicle from 120 to 1,000 horsepower. The duo then created an online fundraiser to raise the funds needed to modify the car. Engine, aerodynamics, tires, looks… Everything is designed to compete and have fun.
And if the main fundraising goal is 50,000 euros, in the end more than 1 million euros are raised for this ambitious project. Which, beyond Vilebrequin’s expectations, is a great success.
A series of 25 videos on the subject will follow, where the evolution of the future 1000tipla is deciphered (it will even reach a whopping 1,294 horses). The adventure will conclude on June 4 during the channel’s flagship event: the “Merguez Tuning Show”. Sylvain Levy and Pierre Chabrier took the opportunity to officially inaugurate the car at the Nevers Magny-Cours circuit (Nièvre).
Even laps of the track are offered to the “Loulous” – the name given to the members of their community – the luckiest and those who participated in the prize pool in 2018. As demonstrated by the video “Merguez tuning Show: It was crazy” , which has 1.6 million views.
“The most beautiful moment” of their lives will take place a few weeks later at the legendary 24-hour circuit of Le Mans (Sarthe). The couple will try to reach the maximum speed of the 1,000 tipla on the famous “Hunaudières straight”… that is, 292 km/h. A video that gathered 1.6 million viewers.
As announced in the farewell video this Thursday, the car should be exhibited in an automobile museum. “So that the Loulous can continue admiring him,” she added. The 1000tipla, however, did not pass its road approval and should no longer circulate on the circuit.
· Destruction
The title of the playlist is unambiguous. It is in this video series, called “Destruction”, where Vilebrequin performs life-size scientific operations on cars. He started in April 2018 with the video “We try to take an obstacle at 130 km / h” which has 6.5 million views and is one of the most popular on the channel.
Driving without engine oil; driving without a body; first shift to 130 km/h; roll with vodka; crashing into a wall at 150 km/h; Putting wings on a car, does it fly? ; take a roundabout at 160 km/h. So many crazy concepts that have made the channel’s trademark.
The two YouTubers point out that all the tests were carried out on closed roads with the authorization of the municipality and supervised by professionals.
· Vultec
What would Vilebrequin be without its Vultech video series? Popular among the entire channel community, Vultechs are explanatory videos about technical elements of cars and the history of manufacturers that have marked the history of automobiles. The plot begins in October 2018 with the video “Gasoline vs Diesel: Which one to choose?”, which already has 1.8 million views.
But it’s really the Bugatti Veyron video (with 4.1 million views) that will make the Vultech ship change course. The vehicles and manufacturers that have marked their era are reviewed in detail. Legendary races such as the 24 Hours of Le Mans, the Dakar and the Tourist Trophy on the Isle of Man are also mentioned, which are the best examples, although not exhaustive.
However, there remains a small disappointment within the Vilebrequin community: that of never having had a Vultech in the differential. However, “promised” by Sylvain Levy and Pierre Chabrier.
