One more step towards privacy on WhatsApp. After launching video and photo ephemera in 2021, the messaging service now offers unique voice messages. They work on the same principle as conventional audio messages, except that they can only be heard once, for confidentiality reasons.
To use them, nothing could be simpler. They work the same way as “single view” messages and photos, as the messaging service calls them.
In an individual or group chat, you must select the “voice message” icon, located at the bottom right of the text entry area. Then, simply press and hold the icon for a few seconds to activate “hands-free recording” mode: then a small number “1” appears surrounded by a circle. This is the icon to activate the “single listen” mode.
Available 14 days
Like ephemeral messages, videos and photographs, once sent the voice message remains available for 14 days as long as the recipient has not listened to it. However, the sender will no longer be able to listen to it once it is sent. Only if the recipient has activated the read receipt in WhatsApp, the sender will be able to see that they have heard it and it will appear grayed out. In the case of a group conversation, each member of the group can listen to it only once.
To listen to a single voice message, simply click on it, in the same way as a normal voice message. Of course, single voice messages cannot be transferred from one conversation to another nor can they be recorded.
