Activision Blizzard has ended the court cases. The successful video game publisher paid 54.8 million dollars (50.2 million euros) to end the lawsuits against it. The company was accused of discrimination and sexual harassment.
The Department of Civil Rights of the State of California (United States) initiated proceedings against the video game giant in July 2021. In a press release, it indicated that it remained “deeply committed to the promotion and application of the human rights of women in the workplace. .
Previous agreements for similar events
This settlement is the second largest ever reached in a case of this type in California, in terms of amount paid. Of the $54.8 million, $45.7 will go to a fund dedicated to employee compensation.
Already in February, the franchise editor Obligations, Devils EITHER world of war – led by Bobby Kotick – had paid $35 million to the American financial markets watchdog (SEC) to stop prosecutions related to inappropriate attitudes, notes AFP.
For its part, The Verge recalls that in 2022 Activision had signed a previous agreement to stop previous lawsuits. The publisher had paid 18 million dollars for the attacks by the American Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC). It was a complaint of sexual harassment and discrimination.
In October, Microsoft bought publisher Activision Blizzard King. The acquisition, which began in January 2022, saw the IT giant spend $68.7 billion to add several successful franchises.
