Meta launched Threads, its network that competes with Twitter, on December 15. After a delay with respect to the United States, the platform registered more than 2.6 downloads in the three days following its launch, of which 1.4 million on the same day.
France has the third highest number of Threads downloads. 440,000 French people have downloaded it. Italy is in the lead, with 1.06 million downloads recorded between December 15 and 17, according to data collected by data.ai, a company specialized in mobile data analysis. Germany follows, with 550,000 downloads. Finally, Spain and Poland follow France, in fourth and fifth position.
The figures combine both downloads made from the App Store, Apple’s application store (1.7 million), and those from the Play Store, Google’s (915,000).
Estimated figures
However, it is worth remembering that these download figures are not necessarily representative of the number of users. Since the launch of Threads in the United States, many European users have been able to access it through indirect means. Therefore, the European accounts in question were not counted in the data.ai figures and the figures can be estimated higher.
By comparison, in the US, data.ai reveals that the app has been downloaded 40.3 million times, and 9 million in the UK to date. The launch of Threads comes at an opportune time for Meta: its competitor Twitter is officially under investigation by the European Commission for disinformation.
