Users of Google Contact, the company’s dedicated application, will now be able to share their geolocation live.
To stay in touch with a loved one, for example during a trip alone at night or to meet at a specific location, Google users can use the application to send their location to another user, indicates the specialized media Android Central.
Sharing is managed by Google Maps and is visible on the contact card, in the form of a new button, provided that the Google account of the data subject has been entered (and is the one used for Google Maps). Once activated, sharing is done in real time and even allows you to check the battery level of the phone from which it is done. It remains active for one hour after it is activated.
Currently in use
To use it, both users must have version 4.22.37.586680692 of the Google Contacts app, which is available on phones running Android 14 (and later).
This application integrates directly into Google smartphones, but can also be downloaded from the Play Store. Still, according to Android Central, this feature is intended to eventually be available in Google’s Messages app as well. Google did not specify whether this deployment was planned.
The feature is currently rolling out to affected Google users – an update may be required for it to appear.
